Roller Yokes/ Motorized Roller Yokes

What are Roller Yokes/ Caliper Control arms?

Roller Yokes / Motorized Roller Yokes

Roller Yokes/ Caliper Control arms play a huge role in the lapping/polishing process. Conditioning ring are placed directly against the machine roller yoke bearings to matain plate flatness. Place the conditioning ring on the plate and move them into position so they are able to rotate against the two bearings at either end of each yoke. Make sure the yokes are adjusted vertically so the drive rings don’t contact the conditioning ring serrations. Roller yokes can also be used to help process parts that are too large for a conditionding ring.If the large components are circular in shape and their diameter is approximately the same or slightly larger than the conditioning ring, it may be possible to substitute the component in place of the ring. The thickness of the component will be a factor as well.

The component must be high enough to contact the yoke bearings. Some Lapmaster models have the capability to adjust the vertical height of the yoke, which could be very convenient for this purpose. It is suggested that only one conditioning ring be removed to allow the component to take its place. The other two conditioning rings, or three in the case of a four-holder machine, should be left in place to control lap plate flatness. The center-to-center distance of the two roller bearings of the conditioning ring yoke determines the maximum component diameter that can be processed in this manner. If the component is too large for the yoke bearing span it will not be held in position during processing and will be thrown outward with centrifugal force. The Lapmaster contract lapping shop uses an extension bolted to the end of a conditioning ring yoke to increase the bearing span and allow even larger components to be processed.

Ring and Yoke Roller Yoke Side Motorized Option

Motorized Roller Yoke Option

  • Variable speed option for all machines, sizes 15” – up
  • Ensures equal removal and surface finish per station
  • Modular system allows for 1, 2 or all 3 stations fitted
  • Standard system features central drive from machine controller
  • Optional system features individual drives for each station
  • Allows rings to turn either in synchronization or out of  synchronization with the lap plate speed
